Brücius Von Xylander

Brücius is a San Francisco-based, world-renowned tattoo artist known for his distinctive, custom line-work and fine blackwork. He specializes in natural, scientific and medieval illustration as well as tattoos in an etching and engraving style.

Brücius worked in fine-art, pursuing drafting, graphic design, oil painting and architecture for over 30 years. He studied Fine Art at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Since 2009, he has tattooed out of Black & Blue, the most well-respected tattoo shop in San Francisco.

Among his awards and distinctions, he won First Prize at the Biennale International Tattoo Convention in 2015 and was named one of's "10 Best Tattoo Artists in the Bay Area." He is Yelp's top blackwork tattoo artist in San Francisco.



When booking a consultation, be advised that your consultation will take place via phone and not in-person.

Blackwork only.

No/minimal color. No shading, only etching and dot-work for gray areas. No/minimal script/font. Preferably handwriting, typewriter or scientific illustration font. No roses, sunflowers, ferns, compass-rose, elaborate frames, wolves, snakes, dandelions, octopi, or figures.

Please be aware that on the day of the tattoo, lovers, family, and friends are not allowed in the room. They can wait in the lobby and visit briefly. This is for everyone’s safety.

The shop is a fragrance-free space. Please don’t use cologne or strong scents.
